Valerie Britton-Wilson

In March we will meet Valerie Britton-Wilson author of ‘A touch of India: Chutney Mary, Charming Irregularities and an Unlikely Romance’.  Valerie was fortunate to have been given a suitcase containing her mother’s possessions including documents, letters & family photos.
Valerie has written of her mother, Pearl, and her life in Bombay as a young girl and her determination to follow a career path of her own choosing.  This eventually led to her meeting her future husband, an Englishman, and their life in post-war England before they eventually moved to Australia.
Valerie has made many visits to India to follow up on her mother’s story.  In fact, she is there now but will be back in time to talk to us about India and her family history.

The British India Discussion Circle is for GSV members researching their family history in India between 1599 and Independence in 1947.

Aim: To understand and gain further knowledge of our ancestors' connections to, and lives in, British India, including those who worked within the Home Establishment.

Meetings will discuss the records available at the GSV and other organisations in Australia, as well as websites with relevant sources, including The British Library, FamilySearch, Findmypast, FIBIS, and TNA.
